  1. Clubs ought to take note of the fans. Silverware – you will celebrate the FA cup win in a hundred years time – nobody will remember that you finshed 16th/17th/18th etc
Lets take an extreme example – Newcastle are a huge club, but no trophy since 1969 (no domestic trophy since 1955) – ask the fans whether they would prefer the FA Cup, or League Cup over gaining a few places in the Premiership. So why, year after year do they, and others put out weakened teams for the cup ?

  2. A trophy for a club like Wigan (no disrespect intended) is a lifelong memory. They punched above their weight just to get to the EPL anyway.

I never understand fans of lots of the EPL teams celebrating avoiding relegation and not batting an eyelid at playing reserves in the cups.

English football isnt about the fans any more, its about money. The FA cup used to be the best cup competition in the world, but now its just a side story to the EPL money.

  3. The worst part was they were relegated days AFTER the cup final.

At least this cant happen anymore as the cup final is now played after the league finishes

  4. As a Leeds fan, who’s never seen us win a trophy or compete to a good level (other then finishing 9th under Bielsa in COVID), I’d have taken the FA Cup instead of staying in the Prem, 100%.

  5. Your the worst coach ever ! You fucked belgium over. You choose your favorites while there were players who could play for belgium but nooo you got the worst

  6. The Martinez effect: even if the team is so good they'll win the cup when it comes to sheer talent, the season long strategy is so bad that you'll get fucked like never before

Can't wait for him to fuck us over permanently starting with this euro

  7. What wasn't mentioned here, was. The FA Cup final was held before the last day of the season.
Who knows if the FA Cup was held after the last day, as per tradition. The players might have been fresher for their remaining fixtures.

But there again, the physiological boost may have helped a little. But it just didn't show in the results.

The reason for the FA Cup being held then was, there was a stipulation that to host the Champions League final, they didn't allow games to be played on it for 1 or 2 weeks before the final. Which is a rule that must have been changed. Because this happened THIS year with the FA Cup and CL finals.

  8. As a West Ham-supporter I still flinch when I think back to the 2006 FA Cup final against Liverpool. Even after Gerrard’s equalizer we had a great opportunity to score, but one of our attackers, can’t remember if it was Zamora or Harewood, was limping around at the time so he managed to miss the goal by about ten yards. When standing about 5 yards from the goal.
